The recession that started in the second half of 2008 has impacted all the comparable counties. Each county has been and still is experiencing significant change. As evidence of Routt County's resilience and positive response to these changes on a composite basis Routt County's ranking amongst the comparable counties maintained its ranking of 2nd.

Although Routt County saw a significant decline of almost 10% in the Economic Livability Index, this decline was offset in part by improvements in the Social Livability Index. On a net basis the overall Livability Index in Routt County has declined by 2.3% since the baseline was established in 2008.
