2010 Routt County Livability Index
Data Set 3 = Public Safety
Current Period Index Value = 0.952
The number of crimes in a community reflects the safety of that community. Based on the data available, this category can be further broken down into three subcategories:
1.Violent Crime (weighted at 70 percent)
2.Property Crime (weighted at 15 percent)
3.Victimless Crime (weighted at 15 percent)
Among the counties, crime rates are generally low compared to state averages. To normalize the data, a five-year weighted rolling average was used, with the most recent year given the heaviest weighting. This weighting was done to take into consideration the significant fluctuations that occur when measuring relatively small numbers.
General Observations:
The crime rate is increasing in five of the comparable counties.
Although Chaffee and Eagle counties have the lowest crime rates per 1,000 of population, the rate of increase from the baseline year of 2006 is the fastest.
Routt County Observations:
Routt County ranks 5th. This is an increase of one position point since the previous two reporting periods when Routt County ranked 4th.
Since the baseline year of 2006, Routt County's crime rate per 1,000 of population has decreased by 5.1%.
