What is the participation of youth citizens in service organizations?
The Index measures civic engagement by analyzing the involvement of youth in-service organizations. Many relevant clubs and associations such as skiing, soccer, music, arts and dance do not provide consistent data. Therefore, data from 4H, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts Clubs was included. More interest groups will be added as the data becomes available. A greater percentage illustrates greater participation in youth service organizations.
General Observations:
Youth participation is essentially the same in five of the ten comparable counties. The downward trend in participation identified last year has been reversed and participation is up in seven counties. La Plata has seen the fastest rate of growth since baseline data was established in 2008.
Routt County Observations:
Routt County ranks 3rd and its rate of improvement is second only to La Plata County.
