How Were Data Sets Used in the Livability Index Selected?
It was recognized that there is no perfect measurement on any one of the 27 topics across the four livability” categories addressed in the Livability Index. There is, however, data available that can help form adequate measurements that can be used to reflect changes that are occurring. The data used must meet these criteria:
It is from recognized secondary sources (typically from state or federal agencies) that are updated routinely. Most of the data used in the index is updated annually unless otherwise noted.
To keep cost low this secondary data must be publically available via the Internet.
The data must be available for all 10 of the comparable counties on the same basis.
