2010 Routt County Livability Index
Economic Data Set 3 = Labor Distribution
Current Period Index Value = 1.023
What is the diversity of jobs?
This measures the total percentage of jobs in the top three industry segments of each county. In the Income Distribution measurement above, the Index showed the concentration of income from the top three industries. In this metric, the Index measures the number of people working in the top three industries.
There is typically an inverse relationship of labor and income sources, especially in resort-based economies. For example, high-labor demand in service industries traditionally reflects lower paying positions. Therefore, it is necessary to track these two measures independently to isolate the elements which have an impact on income and industry distribution. A lower value indicates less dependence on labor in the top three industries.
General Observations:
With regards to sources of employment, Summit County is the least diverse county and La Plata is the most diverse.
Since the establishment of the baseline, data in 2006 employment diversification has taken place at the fastest rate in Gunnison, La Plata and Chaffee counties.
All mountain counties have seen improvements in sources of employment with the exception of Eagle County, which that has remained unchanged.
Routt County Observations:
Over the past three reporting periods, Routt County's distribution of sources of employment has increased by 2%.  Its rate of improvement is similar to Garfield and Grand counties.
