This Index is similar to the national economic indicator on New Housing Starts. Higher values equal stronger construction values
Essentially, new home construction has collapsed in all 10 of the comparable counties. Routt County lagged behind the other counties in experiencing the collapse. In 2008 all the comparable counties with the exception of Routt County experienced a decline in construction values from the previous year. In 2009 Routt County's rate of decline caught up with the rate of decline the comparable counties were experiencing.
General Observations:
From the baseline year the decline in the value of new residential units has been the greatest in Garfield, Routt and Summit counties.
During the previous reporting period Routt and Summit counties were the only two counties that saw increases in new residential construction values; all other counties saw declines.
Routt County Observations:
The value of Routt County new residential construction has fallen since the baseline period by over 80%.
