The index uses solid waste as a measure to track the effectiveness at reducing waste in general. Lower numbers reflect a lower amount of solid waste in the landfills. As data for recycling becomes available, it will be added to the Index in addition to solid waste.
General Observations:
The index value artificially has a maximum of value of 2.00. The directional arrows are indicative of the direction and magnitude of the change since the baseline. San Miguel County does not have a landfill. Five counties have seen a reduction in per capita waste since the baseline period of 2006. Three counties have seen an increase in per capita waste with the largest rate of change taking place in Garfield County.
