How many residents live at lower income levels, and how sustainable is the income required versus the income generated for a given household?
The economics of any county consist of all income levels, and those in the county should be considered in decision making. The Index measures low income and equal weighting between two measurements.
1.The percentage of tax returns claiming earned income credit; and
2.The percentage of population at or below poverty levels established by the federal government.
General Observations:
The ratio in eight of the ten counties improved since the baseline year. Chaffee County has the highest number of low income individuals to the total population. Pitkin County has the lowest and has been improving since the baseline was established.
Routt County Observations:
Routt County has the second lowest ratio and since the baseline was established it has improved by 5.6%.
