Routt County Observations

Routt County Observations:
Within the Civic measurements, Routt County decreased from 2008. Our RCLI is 0.93, demonstrating a 7 percent decrease. However, last year, we were the fourth highest rated county, and this year, we dropped to the ninth highest rated county within the Civic category. This is attributable to the fact that of the eight measurements, Routt County increased in only two, decreased in five and remained the same in one of the measurements. By taking a closer look at each of these eight measurements, the residents of Routt County can see what areas we have improved upon and in what areas we may need to focus on to improve in the future.

Civic Involvement

Civic engagement encompasses a broad spectrum of individual and collective actions. It can be reflected in many forms, from individual volunteerism to organizational involvement to electoral participation. It can include efforts to directly address an issue, work with others in a community to solve a problem, or interact with the institutions of representative democracy. An underlying principal of civic engagement is defined by the ability, agency and opportunity residents have to move comfortably among these various types of civic acts within their community. The Index addresses eight categories to measure how engaged community members are in organizations or initiatives that reflect their interests.
