General Observations

• Eight of the 10 counties had higher five-year weighted rolling average crime rates as compared to the previous year.

Routt County Observations:

• Routt has the highest crime rate among all 10 counties.
• Routt’s crime rate is increasing at the fastest relative rate of all 10 counties.

How safe is our community?

The number of crimes in a community reflects the safety of that community. Based on the data available, this category can be further broken down into two subcategories:

1. Property Crime (weighted at 20 percent); and Routt ranked eighth in property crime as compared to the other counties.

2. Violent Crime (weighted at 80 percent) Routt ranked tenth,
or worst, in violent crime as compared to the other counties.

Among the counties, crime rates are generally low compared to state averages. To normalize the data, a five-year weighted rolling average was used, with the most recent year given the heaviest weighting. This weighting was done to take into consideration the significant fluctuations that occur when measuring relatively small numbers.
