Is the community philanthropic?

The intent of this Index is to measure how philanthropic the people in a community are. The percentage of income given to charities can be measured with data collected from IRS 1040 tax returns filed by residents within each county. This measurement can assess the philanthropic nature of a community, as it reflects an individual’s financial commitment to causes that are valued by the residents. Higher numbers reflect a higher value on philanthropy.
