INDEX QUESTION
Ambient Conditions are defined by traffic, noises, light and any other human-generated elements emitted into our atmosphere that might impact the enjoyment of our community. A common term associated with ambient conditions is “night sky viewing,” or being able to see stars at night without light pollution.
The Index identifies traffic counts as a consistent metric to establish as a baseline for this category. As particulate, light and/or noise measurements are gathered in a consistent method, they will also be included in this section of the Index.
Higher numbers represent a greater degree of traffic congestion. Routt County’s busiest intersection is Seventh Street and Lincoln Avenue in Steamboat Springs. Routt County had 9.0 hours per day over 50 percent rated capacity vs. 10.5 hours per day in the previous year.
