What is the quantity and quality of our child care facilities?
Providing families and children with sufficient quality child care is essential for a community to be a desirable place to live. The Index identifies two factors to measure the value of child care: the quantity of available spaces and the quality of the licensed child care facilities, based on Qualistar data. (Qualistar is a Colorado-based nonprofit organization dedicated to improving child development and age-appropriate learning experiences for all children.)
This overall child care index is the result of the combination of quality and quantity of child care in each county. In the measurement of quality of child care, Routt County decreased from the second ranked county to the fifth ranked county with 20 percent of our child care slots rating 3 or higher via Qualistar. In the measurement of quantity, Routt County improved over last year and ranks fifth among the core counties with 38.7 percent of slots available for children younger than 6.
