Since crime rates are
low in the selected
counties, and in order
to normalize the data,
a 5-year weighted
rolling average was
used, weighting the
most recent year the
heaviest. The absolute
rate is denoted with the
bar, and the rate of
change is indicated
with the square.

How safe is our community?
Basis: The Team agreed that the number of crimes in a given community reflects the safety of a community. Based on the information available for this category, the Team further broke out the data into two subcategories: property and violent crime, weighting the significance of each to arrive at a weighted index to represent public safety.
NOTE: In all core counties, the overall crime rate is well below the state average.
